Move from Isolation to Connectedness with Couples Therapy
Are you and your partner experiencing difficulties communicating? Is connecting on a deeper level becoming challenging? Does your relationship entail endless cycles of blame and withdrawal without any long term changes?
Couples therapy may be the right fit for you. During the couples therapy process, we will address how to to attain and maintain:
- Relationship satisfaction
- Emotional and Physical Intimacy
- A Sense of Teamwork
- Effective Communication
- Ability to Work Through Conflict
My approach is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy, one of the most well-researched therapies for couples. Rather than overwhelming you with assignments or exercises, I focus on the here-and-now process which helps couples develop insight into unhealthy patterns and paves the way for new, positive experiences within the relationship.
Typically, couples undergo 10 to 20 therapy sessions. The first few sessions will focus on the history of your relationship and current problems, the way you interact with each other, and pivotal experiences within the relationship. I may then meet with each of you individually to address any underlying feelings you might have not expressed in the presence of your partner. Following sessions will focus on engaging in new emotional experiences, interactions, and responses, and the final sessions will focus on integration of the new ways of relating in the relationship.
